When Was Acer Founded

They were first introduced to the scene back in 1976 at the beginning of August. That was a while ago. Before I was born and I’m in my 30’s.

It was founded by a guy named Stan Shih and his wife Carolyn Yeh followed by a small group of five others. At the time they went by the name Multitech, not Acer. They were located in a city in Taiwan.

It started out with around 11 employees and about $25,000 in capital. They initially started out as a distributor of electronic parts and a consultant in the use of microprocessor technologies.

They produced the Micro-Professor MPF-1 training kit, followed with Apple 2 clones. The micro-professor 2 and 3 prior to joining the emerging IBM PC compatible market and becoming a legit PC manufacturer. Then shortly after the company changed their name to Acer in 1987.

Acer soon increased worldwide sales. At the same time reducing its labor. By identifying and using marketing strategies that helped utilize their current distribution channels at the time.

They were on the rise and fast. Remember that measly 11 employees they had? By 2005 they had over 7,800 employees. Talk about moving up in the world. Being able to employ that many people means that you are bringing home the bacon and that they were. The company soon saw billions annually.

Nice read on the history on the Acer company. I have always used big brands like Dell and HP, and have recently used Acer monitors with good success. I really like their products and like how their products are built.

I plan on purchasing a notebook computer soon, so I am looking at an Acer now as a possible option. It sound like a solid brand that has been around a lot longer than I would have thought.

Yes acer has been put on the back burner due to the popularity of bigger brands. But they still provide just as good if not better product as the big names

It’s interesting to read th background to a company you’ve always been familiar with! I think they’ve got a great range of laptops that are high quality and very reasonably priced and when I’ve dealt with their customers services in the past they were always brilliant.

I hope they continue to do well because I think the more competition there is in the technology industyr, the better it is for consumers like you and me.
